Our picks for the footwear you need on your feet this fall.
Matt DeSciora
There are literally thousands of sneakers in the world. But which ones are the most essential for fall? The answer is more surprising than you might think.
Contrary to common belief, a great fall shoe doesn’t necessarily have to keep your feet warm or be designed in an earth tone colorway. But it would be beneficial if your fall sneaker(s) are comfortable and versatile.
What works for one person may not work for another. So to us, the best fall sneaker is one that makes sense for you. Life is short, and if a sneaker looks great, is comfortable, fits into your wardrobe, and yes, keeps your feet protected when $*^! hits the fan and it’s snowing or raining sideways, then it’s a great autumn shoe.
In the end, there’s no right or wrong way to go about dressing for fall, as it’s authentic. To help get you started on your fall-sneaker-wearing journey, we rounded up a few favorites that we at Stadium Goods plan to wear (or are currently wearing) in the weeks and months ahead.
The Air Jordan 5 “Burgundy” isn’t just one of the first non-original colorways of Michael Jordan’s fifth signature shoe, it’s also one of the most fall-ready sneakers in the entire Jordan line with its buttery deep burgundy suede construction and neutral-colored accents. This is only the second time the Jordan 5 “Burgundy” has been released, so you definitely should act quickly on the sneaker if you want it for your collection before the weather cools down.
Salehe Bembury x Crocs Pollex Clog “Horchata”
Salehe Bembury’s collaboration with Crocs continues to be one of the most popular collections in sneakers. The talented footwear designer recently created a “Horchata” colorway of the Crocs Pollex Clog that’s both inspired by the cinnamon-flavored Mexican drink and fully ready for fall.
Supreme x Nike Air Force 1 Low “Wheat”
No colorway is more essential to fall than the “wheat” theme. While virtually every brand makes a sneaker in the golden hue, the most iconic style is, with all due respect, the Nike Air Force 1 “Wheat.” We’re partial to Supreme’s spin on the style because of the brand’s shared New York roots with the AF1.
New Balance 990v2 “Brown/Orange/Purple”
New Balance sneakers don’t come in only grey colorways. Here’s the proof: the New Balance 990v2 “Brown/Orange/Purple” features a sunset-in-autumn-inspired design that’s primed for the cooler months.
Air Jordan 1 High OG “Palomino”
Every year Jordan Brand releases the Air Jordan 1 in a few different colors for autumn, and 2023 is no different. The season’s top release just might be the Jordan 1 High OG “Palomino” because of its similar look to the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 collaboration from 2019.
New Balance 550 “Burnt Orange”
Don’t sleep on burnt orange as an accenting color of your favorite sneakers. As you can see with the New Balance 550 “Burnt Orange,” the rustic orange hue complements fall’s neutral and earth tone color palettes extremely well, proving that the perfect shoe for autumn doesn’t have to be just brown.
An elevated look for the Air Jordan 3, the “Palomino” colorway puts various earth tone inspired hues on the classic sneaker, including a medium shade of brown on the model’s signature elephant print, light tan suede on the upper, and Palomino-colored accenting on the eyelets.
Nike Dunk Low Co.Jp “Brown Snakeskin”
Nike’s resurrection of the “Concept Japan” or Co.Jp line has resulted in the return of more than a few really cool retro sneakers that were once only available in Japan. The best example of this as it relates to the fall theme we’re talking about today is the Nike Dunk Low Co.Jp “Brown Snakeskin,” which was first released in the early 2000s before it came back earlier this year.
ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 “Pure Silver”
Did you think that Y2K-style sneakers only come in white-and-silver? They don’t! There’s a retro tech runner for every season, including fall, as we see with the versatile ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 in “Clay/Pure Silver” with a suede construction.
Women’s adidas Samba OG “Green/White”
One of the best qualities of a fall-ready sneaker is versatility. Usually dressed in neutral tones, a fall shoe just goes with everything and can be worn in pretty much every season. The Women’s adidas Samba OG “Green/White” is exactly the shoe we’re describing.
