Searching for what could be trending next in sneakers? Orange you lucky! You’ve come to the right place.
For years and years, sneaker blogs, including this one, have touted all-white sneakers for summer. And for good reason: an all-white shoe can be worn with virtually everything in one’s warm weather wardrobe. But after looking at some of Jordan Brand’s best releases, we’re beginning to see that all-white sneakers aren’t the only footwear option primed for the summer. Believe it or not, orange-based colorways that are as bright as the sun on a hot, midsummer afternoon are just as viable for the season. We’re talking the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Reverse Shattered Backboard,” the Air Jordan 6 “Gatorade,” and so much more.
Consider the shoes you’re about to see the nudge you need to give your crispy all-whites a breather in favor of a fiery orange Air Jordan shoe before the end of the summer.
Women’s Air Jordan 12 “WNBA All-Star Game - Brilliant Orange”
Designed in celebration of the WNBA’s 2023 All-Star Game, the Women’s Air Jordan 12 “Brilliant Orange” features the same color block as the model’s legendary “Flu Game” colorway from the late 1990s. This is a sweet option if you’re dipping your toes in the orange sneaker game.
Air Jordan 1 High OG “Reverse Shattered Backboard”
Had Michael Jordan not played in an overseas exhibition game in Italy back in the day, there may have never been an orange Air Jordan trend as we know it today. Inspired by the team colors of Stefanel Trieste, the Italian basketball team Jordan played for in a one-off game in 1986 when he famously reduced a glass backboard to shards following a thunderous slam dunk, the “Shattered Backboard” theme debuted on the Air Jordan 1 High OG in 2015, and then returned on as the “Reverse Shattered Backboard” in 2016. Today, the “Shattered Backboard” colorway has been seen on countless classic Jordan models.
Inspired by Gatorade’s “Be Like Mike” commercials starring the GOAT himself, the Air Jordan 6 “Gatorade” dons the sports-themed beverage company’s signature blazing orange hue on its panels in a way that calls to mind the Jordan 6’s legendary “Carmine” colorway.
Women’s Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Orange/Black”
Some orange Air Jordan colorways are suited for summer. Others like the Women’s Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Orange/Black” are definitely more Halloween-themed in appearance, which is actually cool with us—fall is just around the corner.
Women’s Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Sport Spice”
Just to give you a more clear picture of how an orange colorway can be summer-esque in appearance, here’s the Women’s Air Jordan 1 Mid SE in “Sport Spice.” See how the cream-colored Coconut Milk leather meshes with the Sport Spice leather to form a warm weather vibe?
Air Jordan 1 High OG “Electro Orange”
Not all orange Air Jordans are the same. A July 2021 release, the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Electro Orange” actually references a classic Jordan 1 colorway: the “Black Toe.” Moreover, the colorway is also inspired by the “Shattered Backboard” theme as evidenced by its orange, black, and white color block.
Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Starfish”
Remember how we said the “Shattered Backboard” theme has inspired the orange Air Jordan trend? Here’s another clear example. The Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Starfish” is more or less a low-top version of the Jordan 1 High OG’s “Reverse Shattered Backboard” because of its similar design. Here’s a more detailed explanation of the history of the “Shattered Backboard” theme.
Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Starfish”
We didn’t want to turn this into a “Shattered Backboard” appreciation post, but here’s another great orange Jordan sneaker with loose ties to the theme: the Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Starfish.”
Since the Air Jordan 1 and the Nike Dunk shared many similarities, it was fitting that Jordan Brand released a shoe associated with the Jordan 1, the Air Jordan 1 KO, in a “Syracuse” Dunk inspired colorway in 2022.
Sneaker collectors from the “blog era” should undoubtedly remember the Air Jordan 7 “Citrus.” This colorway of the seventh Air Jordan with citrus-inspired accents debuted in 2006 as one of the model’s first lifestyle colorways before it came back in 2022.
One last show of love to the “Shattered Backboard” theme goes to the Air Jordan 13 “Starfish.” As you can see, the colorway has the same colors as other “SBB” themed sneakers that also showed major love to the Italian Basketball League team Jordan suited up for way, way back in the day.
