Time to Shine: All the Best Satin Sneakers

We list the best Jordan and Nike sneakers featuring a smooth satin finish.

It’s 2023, and Jordan Brand is still finding new and creative ways to honor the legacy of Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker line years after the “GOAT” last played in a pair of Jays in the NBA. One of the more intriguing ways Jordan Brand has been breathing new life into classic Jordan shoes is by redesigning them in unique materials like satin, which happens to be what appears on one of the season’s hottest new releases: the Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Bred.”

Released exclusively in women’s sizing, the “Satin Bred” Jordan 1 looks to the model’s original “Bred” colorway for inspiration, but replaces the sneaker’s leather construction with satin. Otherwise, the “Satin Bred” and the original “Bred” Jordan 1 are pretty much the same shoe from a design standpoint, which should tell you all you need to know as to why the “Satin Bred” has been lighting up social media feeds since word of its release got out a few months ago.

Another reason why there’s been a ton of hype for the Jordan 1 “Satin Bred” is because of the legacy of the “Satin” colorway theme. Some of the most important releases of the last decade have been covered in satin, including the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Shattered Backboard” and the original Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Bred” that was released in a run of only 501 pairs in men’s sizes back in 2016.

If you’re digging the satin vibe, you’re in luck. There are more Jordan sneakers—and Nike sneakers, too—in satin colorways at Stadium Goods. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites below.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Bred”

The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Bred” was highly coveted when it was released back in 2016, but it wasn’t available in women’s sizing. That’s all changed now that Jordan Brand has finally decided to bring the colorway back as a women’s-exclusive release in 2023.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Black Toe”

The Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Black Toe” is another example of an original Jordan 1 colorway with satin detailing. This time, the material appears on the shoe’s fiery Varsity Red panels, giving the classic colorway more of a lifestyle edge.

Social Status x Nike Mac Attack “Social Currency”

From a distance, Social Status’s Nike Mac Attack “Social Currency” doesn’t appear to have any satin on its design. But a closer look at the retailer’s version of the retro tennis shoe reveals that, in fact, the opulent material is used for the green accents—a nice touch that makes an already great collaboration all the more appealing. Also, the satin can be cut or worn away over time to reveal orange suede underneath.

Women’s Nike Dunk Low “Green Satin”

As its name suggests, the Women’s Nike Dunk Low “Green Satin” features satin material on its design, in this case designed in a Team Green hue that undoubtedly calls to mind the hue of green found on the “Michigan State” inspired Dunk Low.

Aleali May x Air Jordan 1 High OG

Released in 2017, Aleali May’s Air Jordan 1 High OG is perhaps the most hyped shoe to feature satin on its design. May’s version of the Jordan 1 is inspired by her Los Angeles upbringing, and her use of satin on the shoe is a nod to classic sportswear jackets.

Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Satin Grey”

There’s little doubt that the Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Satin Grey” was influenced by Aleali May’s Jordan 1 High of 2017. Both pairs have a similar grey and black color scheme, and of course feature satin-covered panels.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Shattered Backboard”

What a time to be a sneaker collector in 2018. Back then, Jordan Brand was in the midst of releasing the Air Jordan 1 in various satin colorways, one of which was the Jordan 1 High OG “Satin Shattered Backboard.” The colorway is an extension of the famed “Shattered Backboard” collection, and a slightly different take on the Jordan 1s that had previously been released in satin—the “Satin Shattered Backboard” features orange satin accenting with the rest of the upper in leather, whereas the “Satin Bred” and “Satin Royal” Jordan 1s were constructed entirely of satin.

Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year”

Jordan Brand and Nike’s annual “Chinese New Year” or “Lunar New Year” collection dresses classic shoes from each brand in unique materials, including in the case of the Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year,” satin. The 2019 release features not only a pattern inspired by the traditional Chinese patchwork called Bai Jia Yi, but black-colored satin on its upper, giving it an attention-grabbing look.

Women’s Nike Air Force 1 Low “Satin White/Varsity Red”

We’ve covered satin Air Jordan 1s and Nike Dunks, and Nike’s third legacy sneaker, the Air Force 1, has also been treated to a smooth and shiny makeover with this women’s edition in crisp white and red. An icy clear sole adds another refined detail to this impressive colorway.
