With the year 2018 coming to a close, we're sitting back for a minute and taking it all in. With all of our great customers to thank, we had another epic year here at Stadium Goods, and are ready and waiting for all that 2019 brings. But before we get to 2019, we thought we'd take a look at our numbers over the last 12 months, and review exactly what went down in our list of top 100 sellers.
Of course, there are some predictable outcomes like the major presence of adidas Yeezy, plenty of Air Jordans, and Off-White collabs, but there are also a few surprises and other things that made us say "hmm." Here are our most interesting takeaways from our top 100 bestselling sneakers of 2018.
Continued Dominance of the adidas Yeezy Line
Once again this year the Kanye West's adidas line simply dominated our sales. An astounding 7 of the top 10, and 13 of the top 20 best selling models were all Yeezy. The top 5? All Yeezy. The number 1 spot goes to the Yeezy Boost 350 v2 "Triple White," which proved that if adidas is going to supply high quantities of a Yeezy sneaker, the demand will still be there.
People Really Love the Air Jordan 11
Proving its status as one of the most beloved sneakers of all time, the Air Jordan 11 appears within our 100 bestsellers 10 times (in both standard and low-top form). And people really, really like the "Concord" colorway, which was the 17th highest selling sneaker of the year, despite releasing this December.
Everybody expects the Air Jordan 11 to be a top seller, but the...Nike Killshot?! The unassuming sneaker was consistently in our top sellers list each week for most of the year, and clocks in at number 10 for the year. We can't really explain why, but the Killshot was hotter than hot in 2018. Perhaps due to its versatile look and moderate price point. Another pleasant surprise in this year's list is the Vans Old Skool "Yacht Club," which took our number 18 spot.
The Best of Collabs
From Acronym to Off-White, 2018 was a huge year for collaborations. Many of the hottest releases with an "x" somewhere in their name made it into our top 100. Here are the top sellers from a few of noteworthy collabs on the list.
adidas Versus Nike
There's Pepsi versus Coke, Chevy versus Ford, and in the sneaker world, it's of course, adidas versus Nike. The battle rages on for sneaker supremacy, to the advantage of us all that get to enjoy the hot shoes released from both brands as they vie for the top spot in the industry. So which brand is number 1 at Stadium Goods? For our list of 100 bestsellers, the results are: inconclusive. While Nike outweighs adidas as far as number of spots on the list, 60 to 37, respectively, adidas (and Yeezy in particular) take many of the highest positions (like we mentioned earlier, 13 of the top 20) with the most quantities sold. Let's just call it a draw, and be grateful for the fact that the Three Stripes and Swoosh are both constantly churning out amazing footwear.
