The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Freshwater” is an original colorway of baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature shoe from 1996. Released in February 2021, this version of the Air Griffey Max 1 celebrates the performance trainer’s 25-year-anniversary. Adopting the “Freshwater” moniker for its turquoise accents that jive with the primary color of the Seattle Mariners team uniforms, the distinctly ‘90s shoe was worn by “Junior” during one of his greatest individual seasons of his playing career. As for the shoe itself, details include a wavy black synthetic nubuck mudguard between the white leather base and white painted midsole. Additional black nubuck detailing can be found along the eyelets. A black leather Swoosh logo appears on the forefoot. The Air Griffey Max 1 utilizes a bootie-like construction that provides the wearer with a lockdown fit. An adjustable ankle strap around the collar with Griffey’s former “24” jersey number with the Mariners adds another layer of support. Visible Air units in both the forefoot and heel of the midsole add to the retro styling of the shoe. Underfoot, a blazing baseball graphic appears on the heel of the outsole to finish off the look. Release date: February 15, 2021.
