Early Look at the Tiffany and Co. x Nike Air Force 1 Low

A close look at the anticipated Tiffany x Nike collaboration ahead of its March 2023 release.

Few topics are as highly debated in culture than streetwear’s influence over high fashion. Or is it high fashion’s influence over streetwear? It remains unclear whether one is truly inspiring the other, but thanks to collaborations like the new Tiffany and Co. and Nike Air Force 1 Low “1837,” set to be released in March, it’s a little more obvious that both are at times drawing inspiration from the same shared pool of ideas.

The “1837” (nicknamed as a reference to Tiffany’s founding year) is also a reminder that high fashion and streetwear have been intertwined for years, long before Supreme and Louis Vuitton, Off-White and Nike, Dior and Jordan, and Gucci and adidas worked together.

How is that, exactly? Strangely enough, Tiffany and Co. has already had its famous Tiffany Blue appear on a sneaker, albeit in an unofficial capacity: on the Diamond Supply Co. x Nike SB Dunk Low “Tiffany” from 2005. While Diamond Supply Co.’s SB Dunk wasn’t affiliated with the storied luxury jewelry brand, it was the first shoe, and first SB Dunk, to be inspired by Tiffany and Co.’s signature color.

Just like Diamond Supply Co.’s Tiffany-inspired SB Dunk, the “1837” Air Force 1 by Tiffany and Co. features a luxurious vibe that is highlighted by its tumbled leather Swoosh branding in Tiffany Blue. The rest of the “1837” is finished with similarly opulent details. Matching Metallic Silver “Tiffany” ID badges are on the heel. “Tiffany” insignia appears in lieu of the Air Force 1’s original branding on the tongue. Tiffany and Co. even modifies the model’s lace dubrae, and swaps its OG laces for three custom lace options.

It took a few years for Tiffany and Co. to enter the sneaker world, maybe a few more years than anyone would have thought, but as it’s been proven time and again, good things come to those who wait. With an official Tiffany and Co. shoe on the market, that should only do wonders for the original SB Dunk “Tiffany,” and the alternate Nike SB Dunk High “Tiffany” from 2014.

It’s still unclear whether or not streetwear is inspiring high fashion or high fashion is inspiring streetwear (probably both?), but it’s most definitely clear that game recognizes game.
