Lost & Found: Forgotten and Overlooked Air Jordan 1s

Highlighting some great Air Jordan 1s that you may have missed.

Matt DeSciora

The Air Jordan 1 is widely considered the greatest sneaker ever. It was worn by Michael Jordan during his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls, and it was on MJ’s feet when he scored 63 points against the Boston Celtics in the 1986 NBA Playoffs, a Playoffs record that stands to this day. Jordan even pulled out a pair of original Jordan 1 “Chicago’s” for his final game as a Bull in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. More recently, the Jordan 1 has been used in collaborations with Off-White, Dior, Travis Scott, and so on.

But for all of the Jordan 1’s accomplishments, some of its releases are slept-on by the sneaker community. For every “Bred,” “Royal” and “Shattered Backboard” colorway, there is undoubtedly a handful of pretty sweet Jordan 1s that gets swept up in the madness of sneaker culture’s release cycle. And that shouldn’t be.

Today we’re showing love to some of the most underappreciated Air Jordan 1s in our inventory. We hope this post will put people on to some new sneakers that they otherwise wouldn’t be up on.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Newstalgia”

With more and more Women’s Air Jordan 1s releasing on a daily basis, it can be difficult to keep track of every release. That seems to be the case of the “Newstalgia,” a creative colorway that features chenille detailing sourced by old school varsity letterman jackets, specifically the chenille patches that are commonly found on their design.

Air Jordan 1 High OG “Dark Marina Blue”

Somehow, someway, the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Dark Marina Blue” didn’t receive as much attention as it should have when it was released in January 2022. The colorway is more or less an alternative to the Jordan 1’s legendary, original “Royal” colorway from 1985, as it is designed in the same color block, albeit in a slightly different shade of blue than the OG release.

Air Jordan 1 Element Gore-Tex “Light Curry”

There’s an Air Jordan 1 for every occasion, even inclement weather. The Air Jordan 1 Element Gore-Tex “Light Curry” updates the silhouette with a Gore-Tex membrane that keeps water and other elements from getting your feet wet, which is always appreciated. The “Light Curry’s” color block also gives off subtle “Shattered Backboard” vibes, which is dope.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 High OG “Starfish”

Speaking of the “Shattered Backboard” theme, another great, somewhat slept-on Air Jordan that also nods to the popular colorway is the women’s-exclusive “Starfish” release from October 2022. Think of the “Starfish” as a more accessible version of the “Reverse Shattered Backboard” Jordan 1, but with some subtle changes.

Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Zen Green”

Just before Jordan Brand debuted the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom Comfort, it first released the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom in late 2019. A predecessor of sorts to the Zoom Comfort, the Jordan 1 Zoom features Nike’s Zoom Air cushioning technology in its midsole for a more comfortable and modern sneaker experience. The “Zen Green” is definitely one of those forgotten Jordan 1s that deserves more attention.

Air Jordan 1 High OG “Crimson Tint”

Like we said earlier, there’s an Air Jordan 1 for every occasion, including spring and summer. 2019’s “Crimson Tint” edition gives the model a casual look that goes great with the warm tones of warm weather clothing.

Air Jordan 1 High OG “Hyper Royal”

Truly as underrated an Air Jordan 1 as there’s ever been, the “Hyper Royal” is a low-key release that actually references the classic basketball movie, He Got Game as it is said to be inspired by the white-and-blue uniforms of Jesus Shuttlesworth’s high school hoops team, Lincoln High School in Coney Island, Brooklyn.

Air Jordan 1 High OG “Shadow 2.0”

You would think that any Air Jordan 1 that updates one of the model’s greatest colorways would be appreciated by the masses, but curiously that wasn’t necessarily the case when the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Shadow 2.0” dropped. While many got down with the colorway, it was sort of slept-on, too, but maybe not for much longer. Grab a pair now while they’re still affordable.
