These Sneakers Have the Munchies

We’re celebrating 4/20 with sneakers that take inspiration from various snacks that you may enjoy when a sudden hunger strikes.

Sneakers are a serious business in 2023. If they weren’t, Stadium Goods probably wouldn’t exist, and there would be no online raffles for new releases, collaborations between brands, and movies like “Air” inspired by significant events in the culture’s history.
There are also plenty of instances where sneakers are anything but serious. The most obvious example is when brands release marijuana-inspired colorways in celebration of “4/20.” Because who in their right mind—sober or stoned—could look at something like the “Skunk” Nike SB Dunk High and think that an SB Dunk with a smoked out skunk character on it could be taken seriously?
With today being “4/20,” we thought we’d have some fun of our own by showcasing some of our favorite sneakers done up in colorways that are food and snack inspired, because on “4/20,” there’s a good chance that you’re likely going to have the munchies… while hopefully doing something mellow like reading the Stadium Goods Journal.
This post isn’t intended to be anything serious, so light(en) up a bit, get out your Fruit Roll-Ups, your Sour Patch Kids, your Doritos, whatever you eat when you’re lounging, and follow along as we roll through a few sneakers that can be associated with having the munchies.
Ben & Jerry’s x Nike SB Dunk Low “Chunky Dunky”
The Ben & Jerry’s x Nike SB Dunk Low “Chunky Dunky” is high on a short list of shoes that could’ve been imagined only by someone absolutely blitzed out of their cranium. I mean, seriously. This thing looks like a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. It has shaggy cow print overlays, a drippy yellow Swoosh, and if you have it like that, you can purchase the “Special Box” edition, which gets you a giant ice cream carton with this shoe inside of it. Truly absurd in the best way possible.
Quartersnacks x Nike SB Dunk Low “Zebra Cakes”
Who doesn’t love Little Debbie snacks? I know I do. Anyway, Quartersnacks also loves Little Debbie snacks, as do the good people at Nike SB, because collectively they designed their SB Dunk Low in a “Zebra Cakes” inspired colorway. Tasty.
Arizona Ice Tea x adidas Yung-1
Remember the adidas Yung-1? You probably don’t, as the shoe’s hype was short lived. Which may or may not have something to do with the fact that adidas opted to spell its name as “Yung” like it was a Gen Z rapper or something. But anyway, weird spelling aside, the adidas Yung-1 was slept-on, but it was also comfortable, cool-looking, and strangely enough, part of an eyebrow-raising collaboration with Arizona Iced Tea once upon a time. You can’t make this stuff up.
LeBron James x Nike Dunk Low “Fruity Pebbles”
LeBron James stans for Fruity Pebbles. The only reason I know this is because he collaborated with Nike on a Dunk Low called the “Fruity Pebbles.” It looks just as great as the cereal is delicious.
Dave Ortiz, not to be confused with former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, deserves credit for starting the whole sneakers-that-look-like-food trend way back when. Why? Mr. Ortiz, who founded Dave’s Quality Meat, a now-defunct sneaker institution in New York City’s Lower East Side neighborhood, is the creator of 2005’s Nike Air Max 90 “Bacon,” a shoe that looks like and is inspired by a slab of salty, savory bacon.
Nike SB Dunk Low “Blue Raspberry”
The jury’s out as to whether or not the Nike Dunk Low “Blue Raspberry” is inspired by the weed strain of the same name, but it probably is. And so it deserves some love in this post. It’s also a sweet (see what I did there?) colorway that flew under the radar when it was released.
