10 Ronnie Fieg Designs That Shifted Sneaker Culture

Before an influencer, brand, etc., commands a level of cache based on their name alone, it’s their narrative that consumers align with.

The statement is apropos when discussing cultural luminary, designer, and KITH’s founder, Ronnie Fieg.

Born and raised in Queens, NY, Fieg’s upbringing in the Big Apple greatly influences the lens from which he creates. But it’s his understanding that true marketing power lies in directing the narrative that his present-day success hedges on. Continue reading

Kanye West x A Bathing Ape Bape Sta (2006)

When discussing Kanye West in 2007, most should recall his date with destiny – the fight of his then young career against the rap-career-killer 50 Cent. While that moment (and his underdog victory) was certainly the producer-rapper's most iconic moment of the year, one could debate that his most fashionable feat occurred months before that fateful September day, with the unveiling of a College Dropout-inspired A Bathing Ape Bape Sta.

West, no stranger to BAPE apparel and accessories, actually released his first shoe collab with the Japanese brand via a limited run that released December 2006. He would be spotted wearing the shoes throughout the year in the same era that he influenced the world to wear shutter shades.

The Kanye West x A Bathing Ape Bape Sta featured premium tumbled leather on the mudguard and heel in a chocolate brown, while smooth leather in cream color the toe box, mid-panel, BAPE logo branding on the side, and upper heel. A burnt red accents the lace placket, as well as the outsole and inner lining. But the most recognizable aspect of the shoe is the placement of the College Dropout Bear mascot on the lateral side of the shoe.

BAPE x NEIGHBORHOOD x adidas Superstar Boost

On a collaborative front, few brands have matched the consistency that adidas has displayed in their recent work with A Bathing Ape, White Mountaineering, and Palace Skateboards, just to name a few.

One their more innovative feats of recent is a revamp of the iconic Superstar–created with the great minds at BAPE and NEIGHBORHOOD. The shoe's official name is the Superstar Boost, as it integrates the DNA of the classic Superstar silhouette with Boost and Primeknit technology.

The sock unit allows for slip-on access and assures a level of flexibility not typically characteristic of the model. An adidas NMD-inspired heel features a pull tab with proper BAPE branding. The familiar Superstar details appear from the Three Stripes at the mid-foot point to the classic Shell Toe design in a clean premium suede, with embossed NBHD branding. A the midsole arch on the medial side, you'll find additional Boost technology retooled to provide wearers with more comfort to complete the look.

Subtle "Black Camo" Ignites The A Bathing Ape x adidas NMD_R1

The camouflage heavy A Bathing Ape x adidas NMD_R1 releases set the sneaker game in a frenzy over Thanksgiving weekend. The collaboration birthed two colorways, a vibrant green camo and a subtle black camo.

Focusing on the latter, which is definitely the more soft-spoken shoe, this is case in point scenario of why BAPE is such a revered brand. In toning down the vibrance seen on the green version, the use of their patented duck camo in black proves to be just as effective. The design is offset by white on the Three Stripes and Boost midsole. Black and grey tabs on the midsole round out the sneaker.
