The Nike LeBron 16 “Black Hot Lava” borrows its fiery color scheme and namesake from an early-’90s classic, the Nike Air Tech Challenge II. The Air Tech Challenge II was storied tennis champion Andre Agassi’s signature model with Nike, and James outfits his 16th sneaker with some nostalgic flair in an ode to the flamboyant tennis superstar. This isn’t the first time LeBron has drawn inspiration from Nike’s rich archival history, as “King James” previously put his spin on designs from Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders, and other legendary athletes. Consistent with other LeBron 16 models, this colorway is constructed with a Flyknit upper with full-length hybrid Zoom/Air Max cushioning. Also released in a white colorway, the Tech Challenge-themed LeBron 16 “Black Hot Lava” released on May 24th, 2019.
